CEO, Pamela McLean, Ph.D.

Dr. McLean brings 35 years of experience as a clinical and organizational psychologist, executive coach and leader in the field of coaching.  As CEO and co-founder of one of the earliest and eminent coaching schools to emerge in the 90’s, The Hudson Institute of Santa Barbara, McLean oversees all of Hudson’s coaching programs and services, and is committed to excellence in developing highly skilled coaches with a focus on coaching theory, current research and best practices.  On a regular basis, she engages in delivery of the Coach Certification Program at The Hudson Institute.

Dr. McLean regularly speaks on topics of leadership development and coaching. Recent engagements include: Coaching Female Leaders at the Women’s Center for Applied Leadership in 2009; Leadership Development for Women at the 4th China–U.S. Conference on Women and Leadership; The Transitioning Leader: The Third Phase at the American Society on Aging (ASA) and National Council on the Aging (NCOA) Joint Conference; A Developmental Perspective in Coaching at 2008 ICCO Symposium, Pepperdine University; The Coaching Continuum at 2008 Pacific Northwest HR Strategic Forum, Seattle, WA; and more.

In the arenas of leadership coaching and development, Dr. McLean has worked with hundreds of organizational leaders and seasoned professionals inside organizations and in solo practice to deepen and strengthen their coaching skills. She has also counseled numerous organizations in developing coaching cultures and establishing best practices inside organizations.  Some sectors and organizations and leaders engaged in coach training at Hudson include Scottsdale Insurance, Taylormade Adidas Golf, Mattel Company, Monsanto, Gates McDonald, Ford Motor Company, Johnson & Johnson, Nike, Inc., Microsoft Canada, Microsoft US, Mattel & Co., Genentech, and more.

Dr. McLean is the author and co-author with her colleague and partner Frederic Hudson, Ph.D., of several books, articles and chapters focused on coaching, human development and transformational learning. She is the co-author of the well-known book on transition and change, LifeLaunch: A Passionate Guide to the Rest of Your Life.  She most recently co-published the winter 2008 edition of The International Journal for Coaching inside Organizations focused on “A Developmental Perspective in Coaching”.

Her passion surrounds issues related to how we develop and change as adults within the systems of work and life; and her original research examined the concept of intentionality, studying the lives of 500 women. She has been on the faculty of Antioch University, she currently serves on the Harvard Women’s Leadership Board, JFK School of Public Policy, she is a member of Women President’s Organization and serves on the board member of the regional Planned Parenthood affiliate of Central California. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, Division 13 of APA in Consulting Psychology, a Fellow of The American Group Psychotherapy Association and an Editorial Board Member of the International Journal of Coaching in Organizations (IJCO).
